Cottage of the Month November 2013
Welcome to Anita's sweet home in Balsam, North Carolina...
Where is your home located, and how long have you lived there?
Balsam, NC -- 5 years
What is your favorite decorating style?
Where do you get your decorating influence from the most?
I'm inspired first by what I have to work with and I love Pinterest, Google and old magazines
In 5 words or less, your home is?
Personal, welcoming and lived in
What is your favorite store or flea market to shop at?
My favorite place is actually my parent's attic and the old buildings on the property.
Share one of your favorite decorating tricks or ideas:
I love to layer things like paintings over old windows and doors.
I also always add a modern element to all the antiques, like a creamy shag rug, to keep things from looking stuffy and old.
Your favorite paint color, name and brand:
"Secluded Guestroom" Colorplace at Walmart.
It is a perfect match for a blue from my great grandfather's house, and I love it in my kitchen and dining room.
What are your favorite things to collect right now?
I love old tin kitchen canisters and cake carriers, but rarely find them in good shape.
What is your favorite room in your house, and why?
I love the kitchen because it's where we gather so much as a family.
We just made wormy chestnut counter tops from reclaimed wood and it made a big difference in the room, but also added another element from the old house.
Your next project is:
Adding all the chestnut baseboards from the old house.
Currently, they are just leaning against the wall in strategic places :-)
