Cottage of the Month June 2012

This month we're touring Kristy's charming coastal cottage home...

Where is your home located, and how long have you lived
there?

Apollo Beach, FL. We have lived in this rental home for 3 years.

What is your favorite decorating style?

I loosely describe my style as "French Country Coastal"...French style
furnishings with coastal accents.

Where do you get your decorating influence from the most?

I love to read decor magazines like Coastal Living, Veranda, and
Southern Living, as well as design blogs.

In 5 words or less, your home is?

Simple, coastal, comfy, barefoot-elegance.

What is your favorite store or flea market to shop at?

I like HomeGoods, Pottery Barn, Anthropologie and Michaels, but some
of my best finds have come from local thrift shops and antique shops.

Share one of your favorite decorating tricks or ideas:

Since I like updating my home seasonally, I like rooms that are mostly
neutral with pops of color on pillows, linens, and accessories. Also,
I think every room needs a touch of black.

Your favorite paint color, name and brand:

I especially like a warm sandy beige called "Ivoire" from Sherwin
Williams, and a cool beige called "Kilim Beige" also by Sherwin
Williams.

What are your favorite things to collect right now?

As you can see, I like collecting seashells, starfish, coral, seafans,
driftwood, seaglass - any natural element from the beach make great
accessories and accents.

What is your favorite room in your house, and why?

I love our Family Room - the huge picture windows overlooking the water is stunning. It's more about the view than the decor, but by keeping
everything simple, the focus is really on the view!

Your next project is:

We are currently under contract to purchase a new home...and I can't
wait to start decorating it! I have been very limited to what I can
do by being in a rental home these past 3 years...so stay tuned...when
we move, I will have TONS of new decorating posts and before and
afters in the new house!
