July 2010 Cottage of the Month

Welcome to Melaine's beautiful lake home in Woodinville, Washington

Where is your home located (city & state), and how long have you lived there?

Woodinville, Washington on a little private lake called Crystal Lake. We have lived here for 12 years, and it was our first home together.
What is your favorite decorating style?

I love all things vintage. My tastes change all the time, but the thing that sticks the most is the country cottage look with a vintage twist.
Where do you get your decorating influence from the most?

I love to look at magazines and books for inspiration. I could sit at Barnes and Noble all day flipping through home decor books. I'm sure they cringe when they see me walk in!
In 5 words or less, your home is?

a home, not a house
What is your favorite store or flea market to shop at?

I have so many! I love going to the Farm Chicks Show in Spokane, Washington I think you might know that about me if you read my blog! I also love going to a local flea market called the Sandpoint Design And Antique Market. The dealers are fabulous and they always have the coolest junk. A few years ago I went to the Rosebowl flea market in Pasadena, California. Now that was an experience! Talk about HUGE! It was a little overwhelming and a little sad because I knew I couldn't take it all home with me on the airplane. I love shopping in a quaint little town near me called Snohomish. My favorite stores there are Joyworks, Annies On First, and Faded Elegance. They also have some great antique shops.

Share one of your favorite decorating tricks or ideas:

I know it sounds cliche, but paint is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to transform a room or a piece of furniture. A little paint and a lot of sanding can turn something old and boring into something fabulous! Another thing I would say is don't buy something unless you LOVE it. You have to love it, not like it, but LOVE it. If you do, it's worth whatever price tag is on it. Tell your husbands I said so.
Your favorite paint color, name and brand:

Ralph Lauren's Roadster White. It's my go to color. I am not a white-white girl and this color is a beautiful off white without being too dark.
What are your favorite things to collect right now?

Anything white, old, with the paint chipping off ~ metal or wood.

What is your favorite room in your house, and why?

My living room is my favorite room because it's cozy and it's the first room we walked into when we saw our home for the first time. It was love at first sight even though it was uglier than ugly at the time.
Your next project is:

Trying to convince my husband that my daughter needs a walk in closet and bathroom in her room! That counts as a project right?
