Happy Holidays! This month we're visiting Carolyn's cozy cottage home on Prince Edward Island, in Canada...
Where is your home located, and how long have you lived there?
Our home located on beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada. We have lived in our home for 35 years and have raised our family of seven here.
What is your favorite decorating style?
My favorite decorating style is a bit of a mix of shabby, French, cottage.
Where do you get your decorating influence from the most?
I love decorating and have a good stash of magazines such as Victoria, English Home, and even a few treasured Jeanne d' Arc magazines.
In 5 words or less, your home is?
A 90 year old country home
What is your favorite store or flea market to shop at?
Living on a small Island doesn't give us as much choice as larger areas so I scout around the few thrift shops we have here and Winner's (TJMAXX in the U.S.) is my favorite for new homegoods.
Share one of your favorite decorating tricks or ideas:
I like to change things around a lot so a can of paint can make a big difference. We recently painted our old brick fireplace in Ralph Lauren's Victorianna and it made a huge difference.
Your favorite paint color, name and brand:
I have used a lot of Almond Paste and Victorianna in the past few years. Victorianna is a Ralph Lauren color but Almond Paste is just a warm white that I get matched in Behr Paint - not sure what brand it was originally.
What are your favorite things to collect right now?
I love dishes, especially transferware even if they are old and chipped.
What is your favorite room in your house, and why?
I guess I would have to say my kitchen because it has a large bay window overlooking a beautiful big pond, a wood stove that keeps the room warm and cozy in winter, and I enjoy baking and making comfort food. It seems even friends that visit love to sit in the kitchen.
Your next project is:
Right now I am busy getting our home decorated inside and out for a Christmas Home tour that we are on Dec. 10th, but I do have a little cabinet that I bought recently that needs a makeover.
