What better way to kick off the New Year than with a tour inside of Michelle's beautifully decorated home. Residing in Ottawa Hills, Ohio with her husband Tony, and their two kids, they've lived in their home for 9 years. The above photo is Michelle (left) and her sister, Celine (right).Michelle refers to her decorating style as "French Shabby Chic", and prefers painted furniture pieces, unique decorative accents, as well as large mirrors to open up her rooms. She regularly visits the Ann Arbor Antiques Market in Saline, Michigan for special one of a kind finds. Michelle looks for old painted frames, vintage ornaments (which she collects year round), architectural pieces, Cody Foster crowns, and slipcovered furniture. When shopping, Michelle recommends "If you see something and love it, just buy it. It will be gone when you come back!"When it comes to color, Michelle's color palette creates the perfect backdrop for her unique style. Benjamin Moore's "Davenport Tan" in the living room and "Sleepy Blue" by Sherwin Williams in the dining room. You can also find hot fucshia pink in her daughter's room, as well as cocoa brown & pale pink in her family room, which really makes her furniture pop. When people visit Michelle's home, they immediately feel relaxed and at home. It was important to Michelle to create a comfortable environment that was practical, yet livable for her and her family. You can often find Michelle nestled in her living room, her favorite room of the house. She describes it as a "cozy sitting room with no television, a fireplace, and a beautiful window with a view of the outdoors".If you enjoy Michelle's style, she has a store called Canterbury Home, located at 5648 N. Main St. in Sylvania, OH. If you stop by, please tell her The Old Painted Cottage sent you! You can also check out Michelle's new website here. -JG(Photographs contributed by homeowner.
