Handmade Holiday Wrapping Paper

I thought it might be fun to get a little more creative in my gift presentation and make my own holiday wrapping paper this year. You can make your packaging as elaborate or as simple as you like. My theme this year was “woodland wintertime” inspired by my love for all things woodsy and rustic and organic.

Let’s get started! To do this project, you will need the following…

roll closed

I got my roll of kraft paper from Michaels a few years ago, however most craft stores carry kraft paper.

Next, you’ll need an ink pad and stamps. I got all my stamps and ink from Terbear Collectibles on Etsy.

For my first package I used the deer stamp. I followed the instructions included with my stamps, using gentle pressure. I also tested it a few times on a piece of scrap paper before applying it to my kraft paper.

Once I felt comfortable with my applied pressure and the ink amount, I began stamping out my pattern. Incase you were wondering, Adam was my gracious (and patient) hand model for this tutorial!

Once my pattern was all stamped out, I cut the stamped paper from the roll and wrapped my package…

And tied it in my favorite green ribbon…

For the tags, I used the birds christmas tree stamp, and tied it on using bakers twine, also from the same etsy shop.

I believe the bird christmas tree image is originally from The Graphics Fairy…

I added a small white dove ornament and gold dipped pinecones I had from last year’s holiday…

We haven’t set up our tree yet, so our fireplace is a temporary stand-in package gathering spot for now. However I think we’ll be having a bunch of fireside family gatherings over these next few weeks, so I’ll be scouting out a new package gathering station soon.

The deer bust stamp is another favorite I used for this project. For this one I tried stamping directly onto the wrapped package. I think I prefer pre-stamping the paper though…

I applied the same green ribbon, with a heart ornament made from vintage grainsack, and gold dipped pinecones to top it off…

The ruffled music sheet ribbon was actually left over from our house shoot for Better Homes & Gardens magazine, and the Seasons Greetings stamp, designed by calligrapher Laura Hooper, can be found here…

Hi Jennifer. Such an sweet idea for gift wrapping!! I live in Denmark, but will check in my local craft store for cute stamps like yours. Your mantel is gorgeous, like the rest of your house. I once had a silver cup with a handful of feathers, and my two cats did not rest before they had stolen and torn them all, lol.
